10 Things I wish were different about the church... |
(These are in no particular order, just what comes to my head)
1. How we pass out tracks filled with our theologies and dogmas, more than we pass out bread and clothes. 2. How we are so focused on Eternal life, we have forgotten about abundant life offered now. 3. How we use the Bible as a rule book or a prooftexting resource for our own dogmas and doctrines rather than seeing it as the story of God's redemptive plan. 4. How we tend to get so stuck on forms or rituals when we should be focusing on relationships. 5. How we tend to judge others more than show them the same grace shown to us. 6. How we "go" to church rather than being the church. 7. How we get so involved with using the weapons of this world (i.e. politics, war, money, power) rather than following in the way of Jesus (love, serving, humility, peace). 8. How we seem to be behind the curve when it comes to caring for God's earth...when we should be leading the way. 9. How we tend to hold to our differences (what is unique about every denomination or group) rather than holding to our common faith. 10. How we tend to show the world what we are against more than what we are for. |
